One of the weirder elements to emerge from today's mainstream conspiracy culture is the contention that the Earth is, in fact, flat. This has made some people very mad online, the most mad being serial 'splainer Neil deGrasse Tyson.But on Monday night, at a campsite in the town of Brockville, Ontario, near Toronto, an argument about the shape of the Earth reportedly turned into a literal garbage fire.According to local reports, the 56-year-old man, who maintained that the Earth is round, got so mad at his son's flat-Earth-truther girlfriend that he started to throw things into the fire, including a propane canister. The fire department was called to put out the blaze, but the man left the scene.The man is still being sought by police, according to the local media—they intend to charge him with mischief—but a representative from the Brockville Police Service could not be reached for comment.As for how the debate tactic of going apeshit and throwing everything you can get your hands on into a fire pit went, police say that "neither party would change their views," according to local radio station 580 CFRA.Since the incalcitrant debate about the shape of our planet has been raging for thousands of years, I wouldn't have expected any other outcome.
