Charlie Fry, a 25-year old British doctor, was surfing with a few mates on the NSW Central Coast on Monday when he felt something charge at him. That something turned out to be a 1.8 metre shark.“I turned to the right and I saw a shark’s head come out of the water with its teeth and I just punched it in the face,” he told Nine News. “(I) got back on my board, shouted at my friends who were there, and then managed to catch a wave in.”Fry, who had moved to Australia two months ago, escaped with only small wounds to his right shoulder and upper arm but it was enough to score him some pretty heavy media attention. Later, a more relaxed, even jovial Fry cracked jokes with Karl Stefanovic on Nine’s Today, and claimed that he got the punching idea after watching a YouTube video of pro surfer Mick Fanning punching a shark during a world championship in South Africa."So when it happened I was like, 'Just do what Mick did, just punch it in the nose'.” He added: “If you are watching or listening, Mick, I owe you a beer. Thank you very much.”Like all good shark attack survivors Fry says that he plans to get straight back into the water as soon as his wounds heal. Yeah, right.
