The Spookiest Photos of Boston as a Locked-Down Ghost Town

Boston's had a pretty wild week, one that few would've guessed would end in a citywide lockdown that gave way to a ghost town. On the lam is Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the 19-year-old kid from Kyrgyzstan suspected of dropping one of the two bomb-filled backpacks by the Boston Marathon finish line. Tsarnaev's considered armed — possibly with explosives — and extremely dangerous, so police have ordered Bostonians and Cantabridgians to stay in their homes and to lock their doors. As such, there's not much foot traffic on the city's famous red-brick sidewalks.

A lot of people will say these photos are eerie. A once-busy city so emptied of activity, you can almost see the deafening silence of it all. It's like I Am Legend: New England Edition just before Will Smith starts killing zombies. It's eerily beautiful.

No, it's not. This is a real story in a real city with a real villain who's packing real heat. Let's wait 'til we get the all clear before we go all Instagrammatic about the artistic merits of this disaster.

In the meantime, stay safe, Boston. We're all in awe.
