Canelo Alvarez Beats Miguel Cotto by Unanimous Decision, Wants to Take on GGG Right Now

Canelo defeats Cotto, wants to put the gloves on right now and fight Gennady Golovkin.

Canelo Alvarez defeated Miguel Cotto in a unanimous decision at Mandalay Bay last night, looking faster and more powerful than his elder opponent. The judges—John McKaie, Burt Clemens and Dave Moretti—scored the fight 117-111, 119-109, and 118-110, respectively. After the fight, Canelo said of Cotto: "I will always respect him and he's a great champion, but now it's my era."

With the win, Canelo claimed the WBC middleweight title belt, despite the WBC stripping it from Cotto prior to the fight due to his failure to pay a sanctioning fee. Canelo is now the lineal champ as well, setting up a possible fight with Gennady Golovkin who is the current WBA, IBF, and IBO middleweight champ.

So, in the ring after the fight, Max Kellerman asked him if he wanted to fight Golovkin next—"because Canelo fights everyone"—and Canelo didn't mince words. "If you want to fight right now, put the gloves on right now and I'll fight him right now." With all due respect, of course.
