Motherboard is a celebration of the diversity and eclecticism of the culture that surrounds technology. Rather than squinting at technology through the lens of gizmos and gadgetry, Motherboard explores the ways it influences and affects music, art, design, film, gaming, sports, issues surrounding the environment, and everything else we find important.

This Crazy, Oft-Boozing, Chainsaw Ice Skating Norwegian Man is Impervious to Cold

It’s been a pretty mild winter so far in New York, but that hasn’t stopped anybody from complaining about winter. Standing outside of a bar in a light snow, teeth chattering, it’s sometimes hard to fathom why anyone would enjoy the cold. But some people don’t mind it. Others, like this guy, love it. As one surprisingly coherent YouTube commenter put it, “global warming will kill this fella.”

The fella in question is Tor Eckhoff, a 47 year old dude who likes slamming down booze, ice skating with chainsaws, and dunking himself into frozen lakes for the sheer hell of it. His whole YouTube channel is full of videos of him wandering around and acting goofy, but it’s his total indifference to sub-zero temperatures that’s mind-blowing. He’s taken the polar bear thing to a whole new level, and I’m sitting here freezing just watching him.
