The “new human species” Timothy Leary confidently announces the arrival of, in this old public access clip from a show called How to Operate Your Brain, “vibrating” and “harmonizing at the speed of light,” has appeared to have quickly recognized the marketability of its own culture. Like what the Macarena did for Venezuela, Leary’s revolutionary predictions have become a mere addendum to today’s commodified, consumer-based tech zeitgeist. Hell, most of what he’s talking about comes standard onboard any smartphone worth its weight in gigabytes. “You’re not going to be passively watching the screen,” Leary insists. “You’re going to be using the screen as a brain phone.”
