The Unsound Festival Celebrates "Advanced Music," From Eno to Emeralds

The Unsound Festival, dedicated to “advanced” music, swarms New York City this week with a cacophony of unlikely sounds generated by some of the most notable of the world’s cutting edge musicians. Steve Reich, Brian Eno, Ben Frost, and Lustmord are on the agenda. And a few Motherboard alums have a not-insignificant presence too:
- Tonight: our old pal Morton Subotnick, pictured above, will be twisting knobs, revisiting his landmark 1967 debut recording, “Silver Apples of the Moon,” accompanied by video artist Lillevan. - Tomorrow:: our favorite Ohioan cosmic champions, Emeralds will take the stage with composer, Alan Howarth and electro-pioneer, Harald Grosskopf to explore the lineage of synth music in an all out orgy of sound. - Saturday: Electric Independence host Jordan Redaelli will be moderating the panel Resynthesis: Synthetic Music Exploration Then and Now, featuring Harald Grosskopf (his classic kosmiche album Synthesist has just been reissued), John Elliot (Emeralds), Laurel Halo and Alexis Georgopoulos (ARP). (04/09/11 at 4:30 PM at the Goethe-Institut Wyoming Building. Free.)
