Motherboard is a celebration of the diversity and eclecticism of the culture that surrounds technology. Rather than squinting at technology through the lens of gizmos and gadgetry, Motherboard explores the ways it influences and affects music, art, design, film, gaming, sports, issues surrounding the environment, and everything else we find important.

So consider the floor open for group participation. It's simple: Get involved in an existing discussion, post your own related videos, write posts, comment, anything… you're now part of the Motherboard.

Ever feel like your tireless basement tinkering on your homebrewed laser-harmonica or 8-bit tuba deserved a reward? Perhaps some cash and internet fame?

Sound Builders, Motherboard’s documentary series about musicians who homebrew their gear, is looking for a few good instrument builders. The top ten best submissions will each receive $250, but the top three will receive $1000. The grand prize winners will also get their very own Sound Builders episode.

No no no. Seriously.

Just go to the contest page and submit your instrument concept. And if you’re feeling plucky, share your idea with the world by posting it on the Motherboard front page. (Though it won’t affect your chances of winning, it can’t hurt ;-)

Get inspired by our Sound Builders series (including Diego Stocco, pictured above), and by our previous documentaries on the Stylophone, hackerspace NYC Resistor and our Electric Independence series
