The Abandoned Futuristic Spy Architecture of Cold War Berlin

When the Cold War ended, it left lots of shitty stuff in its wake. Stuff like poverty and lots of nuclear weapons and a lack of zing when dropping jokes about Mikhail Gorbachev’s forehead. However, it did leave some good things. Other than the obvs ones like supposed freedom and no more hammer and sickle fear and an abundance of awesome KGB watches… Wow. I’m realizing how many good things came from the end of it. Okay, focus.

Anyhoo, one of the nifty remnants from all this is a long-defunct listening station in Berlin, constructed by the US National Security Agency. So the next time you bite into a bratwurst, remember where it came from. Not here, but somewhere within listening range.
